Lil Wayne’s former manager Cortez Bryant recently chopped it up with Fake Shore Drive‘s Andrew Barber and made some interesting revelations.
Around the 19:11-minute mark, the topic of one of Wayne’s most iconic lyrics came up. The line in questions appears on the 2009 song “Yes,” which finds Wayne rapping, “Yes I do it big, call me little astronomical/Weezy F. Baby and the F is for phenomenal.”
According to Bryant, that was a mistake Weezy could barely swallow.
“The word starts with ‘ph,’ but he said ‘f,’ right?” Bryant said. He was like, ‘Oh shit, I gotta change that.’ We released it. We had an argument about that. He not understanding the concept about digital, and it’s gone now…We had pressed tons of CDs, but he didn’t realize he spelled it wrong, and I didn’t catch it.
“Wayne is a perfectionist about that, using his words and prepositions in [the] correct way. He might misspell something on purpose for lyrical exercise and wordplay, but he’s really precise about his wordplay. He was really down, pissed, ‘Fuck the whole mixtape’ just because of that one damn line.”
Despite the flub, that line has become synonymous with Wayne and he embraces it now. At this point, the “F” could really stand for “Fuck it.”
