Man Falls To His Death At The Weeknd's After Hours Til Dawn Philly Tour Stop

Philadelphia, PA – A 32-year-old man reportedly fell to his death at The Weeknd’s show in Philadelphia on Thursday (July 14). According a local CBS affiliate, Hugo Sanchez was sitting on an escalator rail at Lincoln Financial Field when he lost his balance and fell approximately 40 feet. He was rushed to Thomas Jefferson University hospital and pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Police are calling it “an unfortunate accident” and say there’s no indication of foul play. Sanchez fell just before 11 p.m. local time and it’s unclear why he was sitting on the railing in the first place. His family declined to make a statement but did say funeral arrangements are being planned.

The Philly show marked the first stop on The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn Tour. It started off on a high note, with the Toronto megastar flying out a 6-year-old fan named Phoenix Prince who was devastated by a previous show cancelation. The Weeknd was expected to perform in his hometown but was forced to postpone the show due to a power outage at Rogers Centre.

A photo of Prince taken outside of the venue quickly went viral on social media and soon landed on The Weeknd’s radar. As Prince’s father Blake told CBC,“We had a breakdown moment. He got upset over the fact the show was postponed and somebody captured a picture.”

“I wouldn’t be able to put this last week into words if I tried,” Prince’s father captioned an Instagram post. “We are forever grateful for this moment in time. We are beyond thankful to Abel and his beautiful crew for their friendship, hospitality, generosity and for spending day with Phoenix and I today. He will cherish this experience forever.
