Summer Walker's Boyfriend Slams Billboard Awards For Doja Cat's R&B Wins

Summer Walker’s current boyfriend LVRD Pharoh (real name Larry Lambert) has a bone to pick with the 2022 Billboard Awards. The annual ceremony took place on Sunday (May 15) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas where Doja Cat won multiple awards in the R&B categories.

LVRD Pharoh is apparently confused how a pop singer, who many argue is also a rapper, could win two trophies in the R&B category when Walker is a bona fide R&B artist. Shortly after the awards concluded, he shared his thoughts on Instagram and questioned Billboard for its decision.

“@billboard explain to me how a pop artist @dojacat wins two R&B categories??? And she has one R&B song ever??” he wrote. “@billboard numbers don’t lie, how didn’t she win? As I recall, Still Over It topped @beyonce Lemonade TWICE. How did @summerwalker not win any R&B woman categories? I’ll wait.”

In November 2021, Summer Walker released her sophomore studio album Still Over It, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album broke the record for most album streams in a single day by a female artist on Apple Music and broke her previous record for largest streaming debut-week for a female R&B artist. At the same time, she tied with Taylor Swift as the only two female artists who’ve held 18 songs concurrently on the Billboard Hot 100.

Does Doja Cat’s Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Grammy Settle Remy Ma’s ‘Not A Rapper’ Debate?

Meanwhile, Doja Cat dropped Planet Her last June with features from Young Thug, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, JID and SZA. The song “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA won a Grammy Award in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, while “You Right” with The Weeknd from the same album won Top R&B Song at the BBMAs.

There’s no doubt Summer Walker was disappointed. After the ceremony was over, she wrote on her Instagram Stories, “well this was an interesting night, congrats to everyone but not 1 R&B win. Hm. Guess I just need to work harder lol Larry come break my heart.”
