Tom Moriarty Opens Up On Fifth Studio Album ‘Chapters’

Posted by

Years in the making, Tom Moriarty marks his return with his fifth studio album, Chapters. Built from raw acoustics and true-to-self songwriting, the British singer-songwriter takes a deep dive into folk-rock, offering an electronic twist to the genre. A collaborative effort from start to finish, the project features contributions from Evan Jenkins on drums, Thibault Guillen on bass, Georgie Leach on violin, Rich Milner on Hammond organ, and backing vocals from Louise and Melanie Marshall.

The result is a rich collection of tracks that feel deeply reflective, tracing Moriarty’s lived experiences across the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and beyond. The project hones in on the intricacies of song craft, a testament to time spent at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, while experimenting with southern influences.

Originally set for release in 2020, Chapters unfolds like a beguiling book, opening up a new era for the artist who has evolved significantly as a musician in the intervening years. Speaking on the record, he shares: “It was time to add electric guitar into the mix. I felt it was time to use the skills I’d learned at MI in LA to express myself and emotion in my music. Times had changed and in some of the songs I wanted to express more anger and aggression as a reflection of how the world had changed.”

Tune in now.
