Posted by Icelandic pop duo VÆB have unveiled their debut album ‘VÆBOUT’, a project that cements their status as one of the most exciting new forces in contemporary pop. The record arrives following a string of infectious prelude singles, including ‘Gimme More’, ‘Þetta reddast’, and ‘GAMERBOI’.
Pronounced “VIBE”, VÆB is comprised of brothers Matthias David Matthiasson and Halfdan Helgi Matthiasson. Their sound is a calculated fusion of hook-driven pop sensibilities, candid emotional songwriting, and a distinctively future-facing digital aesthetic that leans heavily into Gen Z humor.
The duo first captured international attention with their breakout track ‘RÓA’. An anthemic exploration of resilience and perseverance, the song secured a landslide victory at Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin, eventually becoming one of the most successful Icelandic entries in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. Its legacy as a top-tier streaming and sales performer set a high bar for the brothers, one they appear to have cleared with ease on their full-length debut.
‘VÆBOUT’ functions as a polished, programmed statement of intent. The album’s centerpiece, ‘Gimme More’, serves as a perfect microcosm of their creative process. Originally conceived as a parody of early-2000s Icelandic boybands, the track was completely overhauled by the duo. By accelerating the tempo and refining the production, they transformed the concept into a vibrant, electro-swing-infused anthem that feels both nostalgic and cutting-edge.
To celebrate the release, VÆB has announced a European tour scheduled for later this year, which includes a highly anticipated headline show at London’s O2 Islington on September 29th. The duo also continues to expand their visual world, recently sharing the official video for their track ‘BUBBI SAGÐI’.
