Los Angeles, CA – Famous Dex isn’t exactly “famous” for his music these days. Instead, he’s racked up a string of domestic violence charges that were supposed to have sent him to jail for almost a year. But according to a recent Instagram post from Akademiks, he’s already out.
On Saturday (September 11), the former Everyday Struggle co-host claimed Famous Dex had been released due to a packed jail.
“#famousdex is now free after being sentenced to 364 days in jail for domestic violence,” he captioned a photo of the seemingly troubled rapper. “He got out only a few days after being sentenced due to ‘overcrowding.’”

According the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s website, Famous Dex was handed the 364 days on September 1 and released on Friday (September 10), nine days after sentencing.
The 28-year-old rapper was initially arrested for violating a protection order regarding a different October 2020 domestic violence charge. He faced a litany of additional charges, including corporal injury domestic violence, threatening a domestic partner, exhibiting a firearm, inflicting bodily injury, dissuading a victim from reporting a crime, defacing property and illegal possession of a firearm.
Famous Dex has been struggling with substance abuse issues for years and even went to rehab last December. The short stint at the treatment facility came less than 24 hours after he denied having a drug problem.
“Hey fam, I really don’t need you to be saying shit like this, bro,” he said at the time. “Let me tell you something, I want to address this to everybody that’s listening to me. Stop worrying the next muthafucka that’s doing drugs [inaudible]. The world on drugs, you know what I’m sayin’? I used to love doing whatever.
“I got money, I can do whatever the fuck I wanna do. Goofy ass bitch. Fuck you worried about me for? And two, I don’t do none of that shit, n-gga. I smoke weed and take care of my kids. What the fuck is wrong with you?”
Dex was discharged less than 30 days later and appeared in another Instagram video looking under the influence, prompting fans to worry about him once again. His Instagram account remains blank, with only a SoundCloud link to his Say What You Want album.
