A$AP Rocky turned heads at the 2021 Met Gala in New York City a few weeks ago with a multi-colored quilt outfit that made the Harlem rap star stand out from his peers. Some felt the quilt was another expensive piece of clothing in Rocky’s closet, but it turns out that’s not the case.
A woman named Sarah took to Instagram to reveal the quilt blanket A$AP Rocky was wearing to the Met Gala actually came from a family donation. According to her Instagram post, Sarah’s great-grandmother made the quilt for her mother, and after some time, the family donated the blanket to a thrift store.
“I read the vogue article about the designer finding the quilt in Southern California and with his office not that far from us in Venice California, I demanded that my mom go look for the photos of it on our old bed,” Sarah wrote in her caption. “Looks like great grandma Mary went to the #metgala with @asaprocky.”

Some people felt Sarah was claiming Rocky’s designer stole the blanket, which led her to share an Instagram post days later clarifying her original post. Sarah’s post was more so praising A$AP Rocky rather than criticizing him.
“I posted this because I found it amazing that some thing that my great grandmother made out of love for my mother, to be used to keep her warm, and was donated so that it might keep somebody else warm or sold to raise funds for a lovely charity, ended up being used for an amazing statement art piece by amazingly talented people who took it to the next level,” Sarah wrote next to her post.
While Rocky was making a statement with his outfit choice, Rihanna was also serving looks at the 2021 Met Gala. RiRi donned an enveloping black ruffle dress from Balenciaga accompanied by a matching beanie and glistening Bulgari diamonds.
Megan Thee Stallion and Frank Ocean had eye-catching outfits as well. Meg channeled her inner Hollywood glamor wearing a bedazzled Coach ballgown with a ruffled hem. On the other hand, Frank showed up in a black Prada outfit, a Dreamcore hat and a necklace from his new luxury jewelry brand Homer. The most exciting piece, though, was the green animatronic baby he held in his arm.
