The perennially busy Anderson .Paak is making his directorial debut. After getting its premiere at TIFF back in 2024, today Aura Entertainment has revealed the official trailer for the family-friendly feature K-Pops!
.Paak co-wrote the K-Pops! screenplay with Khaila Amazan, and he also stars as its lead, BJ, a down-on-his luck Los Angeles musician who rides the K-pop wave all the way to South Korea in an attempt to revive his career. While on the set of a K-pop reality TV music contest, he befriends a kid who he later discovers is his long-lost son. (In real life, .Paak’s mother is South Korean and he’s estranged from his father.) BJ, then, must learn how to navigate the world of K-pop while also being a pop himself.
K-Pops! also stars Yvette Nicole Brown, Jee Young Han, Jonnie “Dumbfoundead” Park, and Soul Rasheed. It features cameos from Jaden Smith and Diplo, as well as actual K-pop stars Vernon, Crush, the Rose, Jessi, and G-Dragon.
