Baby Queen is the alias of South African-raised, London-living creative Bella Latham. After premiering her previous single ‘Pretty Girl Lie’, Annie Mac highlighted that Baby Queen’s music “really stands out for its unfailing honesty.”
Now, the artist has just unveiled her latest cut ‘Want Me’, taken from her keenly-anticipated ‘Medicine’ EP, which will be released on November 13th. Baby Queen is a deeply personal project for Bella, a musical persona that was born out of feeling like a misfit as she tried to fit into London life and felt compelled to write songs about her exposure to a world of fake personalities and self-obsession.
On her latest track, Bella said: “This song is about a childlike crush and an unrequited love. It’s also about my insecurities that seem to be exacerbated by those feelings… I think it’s probably the closest thing we’ll get to a Baby Queen love song anytime soon.”
Directness and honesty are evidently Baby Queen’s stand out features – as she effortlessly exudes once more on ‘Want Me’. The tongue-in-cheek French spoken bridge section also adds a deft layer of humour to a track that only builds further excitement for the rising anti-pop star’s debut EP.
Tune in now.
