CLASH x WaterAid #BathroomSessions Returns With A Bumper Holiday Special

Posted by

CLASH and WaterAid have partnered up once again to bring you a seasonal broadcast of #BathroomSessions to raise money for the charity’s Future on Tap appeal. Featuring a talented array of local and international talent performing sets from the comfort of their very own privies, we’ll commemorate the festive spirit of Christmas with three days of virtual music, launching at 6pm this Friday 11th December and running until Sunday 13th December.

Homing in on CLASH’s commitment to spotlighting global musicians making waves on the scene, in addition to homegrown talent, expect an eclectic cohort of performers to entertain you. UK singer-songwriters, Rag‘n’Bone Man, Ella Henderson, and Jamie Cullum, will be joined by Grammy-nominated Canadian musician JP Saxe and Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna, supporting WaterAid’s work by singing some of their best-known songs.

Other influential acts who’ll be rousing us with online gigs include British singer-songwriters Raye and Maisie Peters, and Nigerian singer-songwriters Oxlade and Simi, as well as Desert Blues band Songhoy Blues.

Launched at the height of lockdown in May, #BathroomSessions helped to raise awareness and funds for WaterAid’s Covid-19 emergency response, bringing clean water to communities around the world to help prevent the spread of the disease. A series of exclusive concerts were streamed live and direct from the bathrooms of some of the biggest names in global music, including the likes of Jessie Ware, Joy Crookes, Melanic C, Maverick Sabre, Stonebwoy and many more. These sessions were recognised with a nomination at the Third Sector Awards in the Communications Campaign of the Year category and a ‘Highly Commended’ award, highlighting innovation across the charitable sector.

Once again, this month’s #BathroomSessions are free to watch and will be streamed on WaterAid’s and Clash Magazine’s Facebook channels, sign up for a reminder here.

WaterAid’s Future on Tap appeal aims to raise £3 million to transform lives with clean water in Ethiopia and across the world. The UK government will match public donations before 4 February 2021, up to £2 million, making double the difference in climate-vulnerable communities.

Globally, 785 million – that’s one in ten people – do not have access to clean water, and erratic and extreme weather exacerbated by climate change is making it much harder for people in the poorest places to access this basic human right. In Ethiopia, nearly two-thirds of the population live without clean water. With this clean water on tap, people can stay healthy, protect their livelihoods, and build a better future for themselves, whatever tomorrow may bring.

Jamie Cullum: “Bathroom Sessions is a fantastic way to bring people together to help make a difference during these challenging times. It’s appalling that just because of where they live, millions of children have no choice but to drink dirty water, which causes so many to get sick. It’s inhuman and is a situation that shouldn’t be a reality in the modern world. WaterAid’s Future on Tap will help transform thousands of lives with clean water in some of the most vulnerable communities. I’m really honoured to be supporting such an important cause.”

Aliou Touré, lead singer, Songhoy Blues: “Headlining WaterAid’s Bathroom Sessions is an opportunity we’re extremely proud of, we’ve always believed in the power of music to break down barriers, revealing our common humanity and creating positive change for people all over the world.”

The full line-up: Charlotte Jane, Dodie, Ella Henderson, Frank Casino, Gavin James, Herizen, Jamie Cullum, JP Saxe, Johnny Drille, Maisie Peters, Oxlade, Raye, Rag‘n’Bone Man, Simi, Songhoy Blues and Yuna.
