Kara Marni Picks Out Her Weekend Bangers

Everything about Kara Marni is organic.

The UK R&B vocalist moves in an entirely natural manner, making her own decisions at her own pace.

Take new single ‘Young Heart’. Soulful and dynamic, it features a guest spot from platinum-selling Stateside rapper Russ, and the collaboration came about in a refreshingly simple way.

Hitting her up on Twitter, Russ tapped into her DMs, and said he was a fan of her music – really, it came from there.

Out now, it caps an incredible 18 months for Kara Marni, a bold return that underlines her stellar potential.

To toast the new release, Clash invited Kara to pick out her weekend bangers…

Whitney Houston – ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’

I mean I don’t think I even need to explain this one, there ain’t no party without it ever… unless it’s a rubbish one!

Diana Ross – ‘I’m Coming Out’

Mama used to play this while cooking up a storm in the kitchen! Been a fav since forever.

Amerie – ‘1 Thing’

That break beat itself is enough to get me going and her vocal on this is out of this world.

Mariah Carey – ‘We Belong Together’

All I can say is this one gets me in my FEELS. Unfortunately when it comes on, I’m usually thinking about someone I most definitely don’t belong with!

Kanye West – ‘Gold Digger’

One all my girls can sing… or should I say scream, the chorus of even when they’ve had one too many! An essential!

Beyonce – ‘Crazy In Love’

Bey is always a part of every playlist on every night but especially when I wanna turn up on the weekends! Crazy in love makes me wanna dance crazy in the club that’s for sure!

TLC – ‘No Scrubs’

One of the best songs written ever. Melodically and lyrically… been the soundtrack to a lot of memories.

Lauryn Hill – ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’

Oh, the nostalgia from this one. When I was younger ‘Doo Wop’ was the jam I had absolutely no understanding of what the song meant, but I absolutely loved the trumpets and the singing. As I have grown up with it, the song matters to me in different ways.

The way she challenges the difference between men and women is so powerful! Teaching us women that self-respect mattered.
