MICHELLE Tackle Mixed Race Identity In America With 'FYO'

Multi-member pop collection MICHELLE have shared their new single ‘FYO’.

The group’s emphatically creative approach has captured a wave of hype, and they could scorch a path across 2021.

New single ‘FYO’ leads the way, and it offers an insight into the experience of being mixed race in the United States.

A song about falling through the cracks of identity, it searches out new means of self-definition.

The four lead singer in MICHELLE grew up with mixed race identities, lending this ambitious piece of alt-pop a highly personal air.

The band’s Jamee Lockard comments…

“‘FYO’ is about belonging to different worlds but feeling rejected by both. Growing up as a mixed-race minority in the US, my self concept was warped by other people telling me what I am and am not, pushing and pulling me between identities. Although my feelings of cultural dissonance still ebb and flow, now I have the vocabulary, support system, and perspective to unpack that inner conflict on my own terms.”

Jamee continues: “We should never give others the authority to define who we are.”
