Born Divine Ikubor, Alté sensation Rema returns with his first solo release since 2020’s ‘Peace Of Mind’.
Never one to rest on his laurels, Rema is the young prodigy with Gen Z appeal and a predilection for sonic bombast, tearing up the Afrobeats rule book. Recalling the youthful verve of his defining hit ‘Dumebi’, Rema’s sings of his admiration for #blackgirlmagic and the female form but his vocal delivery is more contained and sultrier here…
“This record was inspired by the luscious and magnificent body of the African woman. Furthermore, I’m really excited about this tune because it’s my first single with the legendary Don Jazzy.”
Rema glides over tense, undulating production by legendary Nigerian producer and Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy. Don Jazzy has spearheaded the careers of Nigerian heavyweights Tiwa Savage and Wande Coal, monopolizing the Afro-pop scene since his label’s inception in 2012.
Rema revealed to his fans that his debut full-length would drop later this year and if the discordant, dystopian feel of ‘Bounce’ is anything to go by, we can expect a panoramic take on Afro-fusion…
“Another Banger” indeed.
