50 Cent and Eminem have known each other for almost two decades with a relationship that goes deeper than music. In a new interview with Thisis50, 50 revealed Em sends him random text messages and shared one of the most recent exchanges between them.
“To this day, you know what’s ill about Em, he hits me randomly,” 50 says. “He texted me and was like, ‘When you gon’ fly me in private, so I can land on that dick? What the fuck is wrong with you? You said a line that a bitch was supposed to say and made it sound cool.’”
The text references 50 Cent’s verse on “The Woo,” a track on Pop Smoke‘s posthumous album Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon that also features Roddy Ricch. 50 is quoting a woman in the lyrics.
“He’ll stop doing what he’s doing to do that,” 50 adds. “That shit makes my day on a whole other level. It was random, you know what I’m saying? I’m always going to have love for him. That’s my guy.”
Em signed 50 to Shady Records under Dr. Dre‘s Aftermath Entertainment in 2002. They’ve collaborated countless times since, including their highest-charting song “Crack a Bottle,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2010 Grammy Awards.
In January, 50 reunited with Eminem and Dre in Los Angeles when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Em paid a fitting tribute praising his work and friendship over the years.
“Of all the things I don’t remember about 2002, I have a very clear memory of the first time I met 50,” Eminem said. “One of the first things I noticed when he walked into the room was his presence. It just kind of felt like he’s going to be a star. He was the whole package.”
He continued, “I’m here today because he’s not only a business partner to me, this is one of the best friends I’ve known in the world. I would say it’s much more fun to be his friend than it is to be his enemy, ’cause this guy is fucking relentless. And he won’t stop.”
50 Cent is an executive producer for the upcoming TV series Power Book II: Ghost. The Power spinoff premieres September 6 on Starz and stars the likes of Mary J. Blige, Method Man, Michael Rainey Jr. and Naturi Naughton.
