Bob Weir, longtime singer and guitarist for the Grateful Dead and their various offshoots, has passed away. Earlier this evening, Weir’s website posted the news, revealing that his cause of death was “underlying lung issues” from cancer. Weir, the announcement says, was diagnosed with cancer last July, and he began treatment before playing three farewell shows with Dead & Company last year. His family writes that he “transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after courageously beating cancer as only Bobby could.” Weir was 78. This is a developing story.
