Iggy Azalea Ends Brief Rap Retirement: 'Cry About It'

Iggy Azalea is back. After not releasing a song all of 2022, the “Fancy” artist announced she was coming out of rap retirement on Monday (August 8).

Iggy previously planned to walk away from music following the release of 2021’s The End of An Era project, but her feelings have changed this summer after less than a year out of the studio.

“A year ago I was willing to walk away from music because I was tired of the negative energy it attracted,” she tweeted. “But what I’ve learned is that even when I’m minding my business, y’all gonna be negative AND nosey. So if I can’t have peace, neither can you. I’m coming back. Cry about it.”

While she hasn’t dropped any music, the 32-year-old has been creatively rejuvenated this summer performing as the supporting act on Pitbull’s Can’t Stop Us Tour. The North American trek will be making stops this week in Massachusetts and Maine before heading north of the border for shows in Montreal and Toronto.

However, Iggy Azalea has voiced her issues with the music industry on repeated occasions in the past. She’s also dealt with body-shaming critics throughout her career too.

“The music industry is so fucked when it comes to taking advantage of/not respecting the women successfully operating within it; as well as those aspiring to break into it. It’s actually sad,” she wrote in 2019.

She’s also dealt with body-shaming critics throughout her career, too. Iggy recently clapped back at critics in July after a booty-shaking clip from her performance at 2022 Long Beach Pride festival went viral.

“It’s a good thing I genuinely feel happy about myself & my body cause y’all stay in every comment section talking the most shit about me & it’s very mean spirited & ugly. Ps. your man 100% wants to fuck me,” she wrote matter-of-factly.
