LeBron James has been known to exaggerate, and the NBA legend was at it again over the weekend while paying tribute to Takeoff.
During the post-game press conference following the Los Angeles Lakers’ loss to LeBron’s former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, on Sunday (November 6), King James claimed he’d been a fan of Migos since his first season with the Miami Heat in 2010.
“I’ve been listening to those guys for so long,” he said. “I was listening to those guys my first year with the Heat in 2010. [My teammates] had no idea who the Migos was. They were cursing me out when I would play it throughout the locker room. I was like, ‘These guys are next, I’m letting you know right now.’”
LeBron on Takeoff: "I was listening to those guys my 1st year with the Heat in 2010. They had no idea what a Migos was. They were cursing me out when I would play it in the locker room. I was like 'These guys are next, I'm letting you know right now.'"pic.twitter.com/DZj4Fr5uJh

Fans immediately picked apart LeBron James’ quote and questioned how he could’ve been a Migos fan in 2010 when the ATL trio’s first project, Juug Season, didn’t arrive until 2011. Their big break didn’t come until two years after that with songs like “Versace,” “Hannah Montana” and “Bando.”
“Howling bc everybody know a habitual liar and Bron still goes above and beyond,” one person tweeted, while another added: “lebron really said he been listening to migos since 2010 LMFAO fuck outta here this man be lyinnnnn like a mf sometimes.”

Despite his fuzzy math, LeBron also honored Takeoff ahead of the Lakers-Cavs game by wearing an outfit dedicated to the late Migos lyricist.
The 20-season vet rocked the same black suit, sunglasses and silver Jesus piece that Takeoff wore at Quality Control CEO Pierre “Pee” Thomas’ “black ball” birthday party in June.
“If you know me any then you know how much I love @yrntakeoff!! Still doesn’t feel real to me! Rest in Paradise Rocket Man,” LeBron explained on Instagram.

Takeoff (real name Kirshnik Ball) was shot and killed outside a Houston bowling alley in the early hours of November 1 after a heated argument over a dice game broke out.
The 28-year-old rapper was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the autopsy report, he died from “penetrating gunshot wounds of head and torso into arm.”
