Luvcat continues her rapid ascent in the music industry with the release of a striking new visual for her latest single, "Lipstick." The artist, who has already amassed an impressive 25 million streams across her first four tracks, is quickly establishing herself as a formidable force in the dark-pop landscape.
The track itself is a bold exploration of intimacy and control. According to the artist, the song serves as a commentary on the duality of desire, specifically the push and pull between being treated as a fragile object and receiving genuine affection. "'Lipstick' is a song about love and kink. The desire to please and feel like a little doll to be played with but shown tenderness and devotion in equal measure. It came from meeting a man who called me ‘doll’..." she explained.
For the accompanying music video, Luvcat collaborated with director Ollie Bradley-Baker to craft a cinematic experience that leans into these themes. The Liverpool-based performer takes center stage, embodying the "doll" persona central to the song's narrative.
Reflecting on the aesthetic inspiration for the project, Luvcat noted a nostalgic influence: "The music video was inspired by my favourite scene from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang “Doll on a Music Box”. I used to dress up as her as a kid… a wind up doll come to life to terrorize the town. Some things never change I guess."
Fans looking to experience her sound in a live setting can catch Luvcat performing at The Great Escape festival this week.
