A Bold New Chapter for Luvcat
Luvcat has officially unveiled the provocative music video for her latest single, ‘Lipstick’. The track arrives as part of a meteoric rise for the artist, who has already captivated audiences with a series of dark-pop anthems that have gained significant traction across social media platforms. With an impressive 25 million streams accumulated across just four singles, ‘Lipstick’ is poised to further cement her status as a formidable force in contemporary pop.
Exploring Desire and Devotion
Described by the artist herself as a song “about love and kink,” ‘Lipstick’ delves into the complexities of desire and the subversion of power dynamics. The track challenges traditional expectations, posing the central question: who is truly in control? Luvcat elaborates on the thematic inspiration behind the lyrics, noting, “‘Lipstick’ is a song about love and kink. The desire to please and feel like a little doll to be played with but shown tenderness and devotion in equal measure. It came from meeting a man who called me ‘doll’…”
A Cinematic Extravaganza
The accompanying music video, directed by Luvcat alongside Ollie Bradley-Baker, transforms these themes into a striking visual narrative. The Liverpool-based artist takes center stage, embodying the ‘doll’ persona in a production that leans into theatrical, cinematic flair. Reflecting on the visual aesthetic, Luvcat shares, “The music video was inspired by my favourite scene from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ‘Doll on a Music Box’. I used to dress up as her as a kid… a wind up doll come to life to terrorize the town. Some things never change I guess.”
As Luvcat continues to build her unique sonic and visual identity, fans can catch her live performance at The Great Escape this week.
