Lucy Park returns with her latest single, ‘BLUE SASHIKO’. There is a distinct, perfume-esque quality to her latest release, with the songwriter’s alt-soul elixir exuding a tremendous sense of atmosphere. Building on the momentum of her acclaimed ‘GOOD GRACES’ EP, the UK artist recently debuted new material during a standout performance at this year’s Brick Lane Jazz Festival.
‘BLUE SASHIKO’ is defined by its opaque musicality, which beams with a subtle, internal light. The track focuses on the process of making repairs to one’s emotional life. The title references a traditional Japanese embroidery technique, serving as a central metaphor for how the process of renewal can further our own beauty.
The production is expertly crafted, with Lucy’s considerate, carefully controlled vocal performance perfectly augmenting the airy, expansive soundscape.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Lucy Park explains: “‘BLUE SASHIKO’ is a song about stitching patterns into relationships and constructing / deconstructing yourself with a bunch of tiny little stitches. When I wrote it I had been thinking a lot about the threads that tie us together and how difficult it can feel to tear them apart… Sashiko is a type of Japanese embroidery that uses running stitches to repair and reinforce torn fabric. It often creates a new more visible pattern instead of attempting to discreetly hide the original tears.”
