The jury in the high-profile murder case of Jacksonville rapper Foolio has officially decided against the death penalty for his convicted killers. The decision marks a significant conclusion to the penalty phase of a trial that has gripped the hip-hop community.
On Friday, May 15, 2026, a week after being found guilty of conspiracy, murder, and attempted murder charges related to the rapper’s death on May 8, the defendants—Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy—appeared in court for the final day of the penalty phase. Following a week of closing arguments, the jury rejected the prosecution’s request for capital punishment, instead recommending that the four men serve life sentences without the possibility of parole.
The defendants are scheduled for formal sentencing on June 22.
The case also involved a fifth individual, Alicia Andrews, who was convicted of manslaughter last October. Her sentencing has been postponed as she currently pursues an appeal and a request for a new trial.
During the proceedings, prosecutors successfully argued that the group orchestrated the killing of Foolio as part of a violent, ongoing gang conflict in Jacksonville involving the 1200 gang, ATK, and 6 Block, the latter of which Foolio was affiliated with. The rapper was fatally shot on June 23, 2024, while sitting in a vehicle outside a Holiday Inn in Tampa, Fla., where he had been celebrating his birthday.
Investigators detailed how Isaiah Chance and his girlfriend, Alicia Andrews, tracked the rapper throughout Tampa, relaying his location to the other three men. Surveillance footage captured the subsequent shooting in the hotel parking lot.
