Kodaline have shared the heart-breaking video for ‘Wherever You Are’.
The Irish band make a habit of pulling at the heartstrings, with their emotional songwriting winning an international audience.
‘Wherever You Are’ is a real slow-burner, with director Riley Blakeway charged with interpreting Steve Garrigan’s lyrics.
The clip focusses on a young couple – Teresa Oman and Nick Mahady – who fall intensely in love, and begin planning a break together.
His tragic death means it can’t happen, so the young woman decides to complete the journey alone; it’s both the fulfilment of a dream, and a fitting way to say goodbye.
A shoot marked by absence, it’s almost unbearably poignant. Riley Blakeway comments…
“After hearing the song for the first time, I was reminded of a close friend that lost someone very special to her and shortly after, went on a trip in search of catharsis. I then asked that friend to star in the film and the result was one of the most meaningful collaborations I’ve had.”
“I can’t thank Teresa enough for the trust and vulnerability she gave me.”
