In spite of the controversy surrounding her name change, Latto is having a great 2021 rap year.
The Atlanta rapper is coming off a strong 2021 MTV Video Music Awards showing where she was nominated for “MTV Push Performance of the Year” (for the Lil Baby-featured “Sex Lies”), just a couple of months removed where she snagged a couple of noms at the 2021 BET Awards.
On Friday (September 24), Latto officially went into new album mode with the unveiling of her new single, “Big Energy.”
The record samples Tom Tom Club’s instantly recognizable “Genius of Love” and the Arrad-directed video features Latto modeling several looks like a seductive ladybug, an angel, and a metaphorical lottery ‘777’ jackpot — with the latter troupe being centered around a CashApp campaign where fans can score a $777 blessing just for participating.

However, on Saturday (September 25), Latto felt the need to address the negativity constantly tapping her mentions in the wake of her new visual.
“I hate this Latto hate train I feel so misunderstood being I’m literally the least problematic person ever [in real life,” she wrote with a crying emoji.

21 Savage, who had every reason not to be paying attention to new Hip Hop releases, having spent a few minutes in jail on Friday over his 2019 ICE arrest, went out his way to proclaim Latto royalty in his own hometown.
“This too hard,” he wrote along with a fire emoji. “Queen Of The A.”
