While Drake is not on the receiving end of a new lawsuit, his name has been roped into it over an endorsement deal gone sideways.
According to TMZ, champagne company Mod Selection (which Champagne Papi is an investor and brand ambassador for) has filed suit against retail store Total Wine & More for allegedly conspiring with distributor Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits to destroy them because they’re racist.
Mod Selection entered into an agreement with Southern Glazer’s in 2018, and claims the company damaged their relationship with Drake because they “repeatedly subjected [him] to browbeating and dismissive treatment.” Mod feels this was motivated by “racial bigotry,” while noting Southern also marketed the drink as a “Black” or “rapper’s” champagne.
Southern terminated their deal with Mod a year later, and Mod alleges they did even more damage by then going and dumping its remaining supply of the champagne at Total Wine & More locations for an extremely discounted price of $49-149 per bottle when it was supposed to retail for $300-400.
TMZ reports that Mod’s attorneys have told them they have texts from Drake proving he was upset with Southern and calling them out. However, the superstar’s lawyer, Larry Stein, says he’s not sure if that’s true or not as he had no prior knowledge of the lawsuit and had never heard Drake or his team express issues with racial bias.
Meanwhile, Drizzy is busy gearing up for the release of his anticipated sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy.
