Orla Gartland To Score New Season Of Trying

Orla Gartland will oversee the score for the new series of Apple drama Trying. The songwriter has been picked to craft the OST for the new series, and she’s thrived on the dramatic character arcs in the forthcoming season.

The project will include eight brand new songs, constructed alongside producer Tom Stafford. Guests will include Matt Maltese, and it’s become a labour of love for the songwriter.

“I absolutely loved making this soundtrack. The task was beautifully straightforward: write eight songs, one for the closing scene of each episode,” explains Orla Gartland. “I started by writing about the characters’ arcs in the series; tales of love, growth, family – what I didn’t expect was that somewhere along the way it all became about my own experiences. I think maybe it’s the only way I can make music, to put a piece of myself in everything.

“Working closely with my producer and longtime collaborator Tom Stafford felt like stepping into a pair of perfectly worn-in boots – the two of us always have such a deep, unspoken understanding of where we want to get to. We worked quickly and eventually landed on a palette of big acoustics, noughties-inspired drums, tiny little moog synth noodles and big soaring strings.”

New single ‘At The End Of The Day’ is out now, a gentle ode that softly lulls you into her potent world-building finesse. Orla explains…

“Inspired by the two lead characters in Trying (and my own parents), I wrote ‘At The End Of The Day’ about recognising real love against the backdrop of an intense shared history. It’s about looking back on the perfectly imperfect life you’ve built, all you’ve been through together and thinking sometimes I’m a nightmare and sometimes you’re a nightmare and I AM STILL MAD ABOUT YOU.”

Tune in now.
